Once a year, Microsoft hold a huge IT conference known as TechEd. Last year I was lucky enough to attend TechED 2007 at the Gold Coast, where to my pleasant surprise, they were using one of my mixes during a session. I wrote about it last year on my blog: http://www.dreamension.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=46&Itemid=9
Well TechED is on again this year, and this time it’s being held at the Sydney Convention Center from Sep 2nd to 5th. And this year, I was asked to create two special mixes that will once again be used during session breakouts.
These 2 short mixes purposely deviate from my traditional trance/vocal/progressive style, and take on more of a house/commercial flavour. I wanted to create a couple of mixes that had beats, but yet were familiar to people who don’t normally listen to this style of music.
The only requests that I had were to use the track “Keep Hope Alive” by The Crystal Method, and “Rhythm is a Dancer” by Snap. From there I went with what I thought would appeal to the broadest audience, while still keeping within the “dance music” genre.
Those that listen to dance music will appreciate the sound, and those that don’t listen to dance music will hear familiar songs remixed.
